Have just installed Vista Home Basic - no problems except that each time I
boot up and Windows starts up I receive an error message re Windows
Calendar - "a solution online can be found later and the program will be
closed - or I can close it now". I don't bother to use it anymore...even
though it seems to be ok when I do open it. How can I stop this message
appearing? Thanks

There is a hotfix for this error:

Error message when you restart a Windows Vista-based computer: "Windows
Calendar has stopped working"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933942/en-us

Hotfixes are free but you do have to contact MS for them. It is an easy
process.

The other day I got a hotfix to solve a problem and yes,
it was easy (and successful,) but I was left wondering
about the process. Why couldn't then simply make such fixes
immediately available for download as opposed to going
through an Indian call centre.
Have you any idea why MS do it that way?

I believe they do it that way because the hotfixes aren't tested as
widely as regular patches and MS wants to have more control over where
the hotfixes go so scores of users don't come back with "your hotfix
trashed my machine". But since I don't work for MS, that's only a guess
on my part.

Sounds reasonable. Ta.

I am also having the same problem and I had also found that hotfiix KB933942
is right for me. I also got hotfix link and passwords from microsoft support
but the given password is not working. Can any of you send me the hotfix file?

No. Simply contact Microsoft again.

You are mistaken, as is the OP. Hotfixes never cost anything. It would be
extremely foolish for a Windows user to apply something purporting to be a
patch for a Microsoft operating system from source except Microsoft.

So you're saying that OEM versions of Vista (which is what the majority of
people have) qualify for free hotfixes from MS?

If not, then would you encourage them to take pleasure in a redundant link
to Calendar, enjoy the ingorance of what an md5 checksum is, to wallow in an
unhealthy netophobia, or to take delight in unnecessary payments to
Microsoft Support?

Thanks for your advce.
