calendar requests

why is it when someone sends a calendar meeting request does it add itself
onto my calendar even though I have neither accepted or rejected the
request?

Outlook 2007 on exchange 2007 work environment.

Thank you . I understand that but if you get 100 email and you don't bother
doing anything with that email it stays in your calendar. Should it not do
anything to your calendar until you either accept or reject it?
