calculating dates that have been pasted

I have a sheet that I paste information from an AS400 application to a
excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet takes certain cells and applies the
to an invoice and does all the calculations. However, the dates tha
have been pasted will not calculate. No matter what I have tried i
terms of formatting, I am still getting a "value" error. Dates that ar
typed in work. But the pasted ones won't. Anyone know how to fix this?

try:
- select an empty cell and copy it
- select your imported dates
- goto 'Edit - Paste Special' and choose 'Add'

Data>Text to Columns>Next>Next "Column Data Format" >Date and pick a format.

Finish.
