Cached Domain Credentials and Home Network

I have a win2k laptop that is joined to a win2k domain at work.
At home, I have a wireless router that I am trying to use to implement a
home network (currently, this is not connected to the internet, but soon it
will be). I have a winXP desktop PC connected to the router via ethernet
that I want to use as a file / printer server.

I bring my laptop home, & want to print out stuff on the printer by
connecting (wirelessly) to my home network. I want to log onto my laptop
using cached credentails (i.e. using my work domain account login), as I may
need to access encrypted files that are keyed to that account. So I turn on
my laptop, resume my (suspended) session from work & plug in my wireless
network card.

Now, I have a problem. As soon as I plug in the wireless card, all file
system operations on the laptop seem to be delayed by several seconds.
Something is plainly timing out. For example, displaying the properties of
the wireless network connection on the laptop seems to take ~10s.

I suspect the problem is that the laptop is searching for the domain
controller (for the work domain) and not finding it (not surprising as I am
at home). I am not sure, though.

How can I diagnose what is going wrong?

(If anyone has any suggestions for how best to set such a system up I would
also be grateful. Please don't suggest renaming the home workgroup to the
work domain name, as my wife has a similar requirement and her work domain
name is not the same as mine. I have already setup a share on the WinXP
machine & can access this (after the usual pause) providing that I use the
"attche under a different username" option for file sharing. Without this
share, I cannot seem to see the winXP printer at all).

Tkanks!

What happens if you do a full shutdown, restart, log in with cached
credentials, and THEN plug in your wireless card & see if you get a new IP?
I suspect that your hibernated/standby status may have a lot to do with
this.
