Workgroup vs Domain

I am having difficulty in connecting my laptop computer to my desktop
computer via my wireless router.

I have a laptop computer that is used at work with an ethernet connection to
a network with a domain, and is used at home with a wireless "connection" to
the wireless router. I have no difficulty with internet access with either
the destop or the laptop, at work or at home, and I've been able to easily
establish a VPN connection from home to the network at work. I've been able
to establish a VPN connection from the laptop to the desktop at home via the
wireless router, but I am unable to access the desktop computer's shared
drives or folders using the laptop. Both computers are running Windows 2000
Professional. I am led to believe the problem is due to the use of the
domain at work, which does not allow the use of a workgroup at home.

What do I need to do to enable my laptop to access the desktop computer's
files and printers?

What are your file and print sharing options set at? I can't tell you
specifically but I can point you here:

Both the desktop and laptop computers have the drives, folders, and printer
sharing enabled.

I can successfully establish VPN connections between the desktop and the
laptop, and between both the desktop and the laptop and the network at work.
Only the laptop, being configured for the domain at work, can access the work
network drives. I believe that my laptop, being configured for domain
access, will not allow me to access my home "Workgroup" network.

There is probably an easier workaround than this and I'm sure that someone
will post it but you would probably need to create a separate connection in
the network settings to configure it to access your home network (default at
MSHOME IIRC) for home use. The trick is getting an alternate LAN to show and
be usable/selectable while on the same profile and that's escaping me at the
moment. Perhaps the solution, until someone posts a better method, is to try
it with a second profile with correct privileges.
