cable dsl question

I apologize and know this is probably not the right NG to post this
question, but I can only access MS newsgroups at the moment.
Can anyone tell me if its possible to have both cable and a dsl connection
on one computer. I know its possible to have one or the other with a
dialup, but both together?

Greetings --

You can surely have both, but there is not a whole lot of point to it.
Other than paying for both per month you really "can not" combine the speed
of the two. There is one router on the market that claims to combine
connections, but i have never seen any reviews saying that it works.

I haven't seen or even heard about the router Chris Lanier mentioned, but
I'm assuming that if you did use that router, then no, you would only need 1
NIC in the computer. The router probably has 2 WAN ports (1 for DSL, 1 for
Cable), and the rest are LAN ports, with one going to each computer. I think
I'm a little skeptical about this router, but then again, I haven't seen
anything about it...but if you look into it, make sure you read a few
reviews on it first.

I'm just curious here.......... why would anyone have the need to run a
cable and a dsl connection? They can't be combined and cable is generally
faster.(I get 3mb down and 384k up max on cable)

Well as with any connection it does vary, good days and bad days. 3mb down
is the max, what the bandwidth is capped at. Fortunately for me a bad day is
about 1mb down and a good day is about 2.7mb down. On average I get around
2mb down. Just did a test now and got 2.1mb down and 334k up. Tried another
site and got 1.9mb down and 330k up. I'm am always happy with this speed.

Hey that's pretty good on DSL. I can't get DSL here(old phone lines), but
have cable(road runner) and it has served me well. We were capped at 2.5mb,
but they just upped it. ) Have a good one.
