.cab attachment

When I receive an excel attachment to an email, it gets
confervet to filename.xls.cab - In order to open it, I
have to
1. open the attachment (which looks like a file cabinet)
2. click on what appear to be an excel file
3. select a desination to extract the file to
4. extract the file

How do I disable whatever is causing the .cab file to be
formed?

I sent a .xls file to myself. When I look in "sent
mail", the attachement is an .xls file. the one in my
inbox is a .xls.cab file. The saem thing is happening
when I receive some .txt files and some .html files, and
from different people. So it seems like a receiving
problem, but I can't find anything in the help file or on-
line help
