For a w2k advanced server
- SP3,
- member server in DC,
- without installed Exchange server
- use veritas netbackup for backup

When backup all local volumes and system state, it
returned "cannot open c:\winnt\security\edb00001.log"

When I open the file, it returned "cannot open, it may be
used by another process"

When I renamed the edb00001.log file after rebooted,
backup completed successfully.

1. What's the purpose of edbxxxxx.log?

2. There are some articles mentioned edbxxxxx.log related
to Directory Service in Domain Controller and Exchange
server, but the path is c:\winnt\ntds. Is this related to
me case ?

3. I thought the file was corrupted. But why the file
corrupted ?

It's a Jet database log. Judging by the directory it's in, it probably has
something to do with security policy.
