G'Day List,

I got the abovereferenced error on my WIN2K Server box and Dave Patrick
pointed me to a KB Article - Thanks again Dave - that proved helpful.

The KB article says boot into the Directory Services Restore Mode to run
"ntdsutil files info" at the command prompt but I get an error in addition
to the file info, here is the error:
ntdsutil:files
file maintenance:info
***Warning:0x3ed<The volume does not contain a recognizes file system.
Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that
the volume is not corrupted.> Getting volume information for F:\

xxxError::0x3ed<The volume does not contain a recognizes file system. Please
make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the
volume is not corrupted.> Finding first match of "F:\WINNT\NTDS\*"

I do not understand it. Why is it looking to "F:\WINNT\NTDS\*" when there is
a "C:\WINNT\NTDS\*"

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

You didn't mention the drive controller (possibly SCSI, or ultra DMA, or
ATA100, or raid, or serial ATA), but you may need to boot the Windows 2000
setup disks or CD-Rom and *F6* very early and very important (at setup is
inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller detection,
and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to
insert the manufacturer supplied Windows 2000 driver for your drive's
controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

Failing that this article may help.

Hello Dave,
Thanks very much again for your pointers.
The server is a Dell PowerEdge500SC and it has the onboard PCI IDE. There
are three drives C, E, F.

So, it appears that the "F" drive is acting up.

Thanks again I will readup on the KB Article. Please send more pointers. I
appreciate it.

What did

ntdsutil files info

return with? Are you sure the database isn't on F:\ ? You might also ask
them here.
