C:Windows\Downloaded Program files

We play games a lot & I'm finding data in the above area located in
C:\Windows\Downloaded Program files that I'm not sure about. Most of it has
to do with ActiveX control, I'm not sure what this is, but I know ActiveX in
this particular area is not deleted when I do a general cleanup every week or
two. It seems we are asked to download ActiveX control on various websites.

Does anyone know what this data is & if it can be deleted? Only one or two
of these files have anything to do with games we have purchased.

Simple do-it-hourself test:
1. Create a new folder \TemPP
2. MOVE to this folder the whole contents of
C:\Windows\Downloaded Program\*.*
3. Reboot and play the game

If any component of the game calls a DLL from
this subfolder you will probably get either a system
hang (no information) or a BSOD (some error
information) or an error message "File Not Found"
which will identify the unsuccessful file call.

If this interferes with your enjoyment, you can
simply move all c:\tempp\*.* back where it came from.

Hi skmetn1111,
ActiveX is a component object model (COM) developed
by Microsoft for Windows. Using COM runtime. They provide user interface
components and start events. ActiveX controls are smaller versions of OCX
controls. They can be automatically downloaded and run by web-browsers.
They are not usually very large but they do pose a risk as they allow
potential control over applications through your browser and as such you
should set limits on their use for trusted and untrusted websites under the
security tab in the Internet Properties page.
