Jeff

We were having some problems with Windows ME, and decided
it was time to update this computer to XP. During the
install we received the message above with file missing.
I looked for the file on 2 other computers with XP with
no luck. It gave us the option to skip the file. We did!
XP starts, runs programs, but we cannot get into control
panel, or Explorer, or recycle bin, maybe more. What do
we do???????????????? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greetings --

That's a temporary folder created and used only during the
installation of the OS or possibly a service pack. It should be
deleted automatically at the conclusion of a successful installation,
and won't be present on most computers. If it is present, it won't be
visible in Explorer, or via Search unless you've set your folder
options to display hidden files and folders and (perhaps, I don't
recall off-hand) to show protected operating system files.

I'd suggest performing a clean installation on this one machine,
rather than trying to upgrade. Upgrading over a misbehaving OS is
always a risky proposition.

I have that folder too, but no problems whatsoever with my XP installation (upgrade from win98). Can I remove the $WIN_NT$.~BT folder?
