C++ run time error

this error message pops up when XP is started:
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\program Files\common files\symantec
shared\ccEvtmgr.exe
R6025
-pure virtual function cell

my freind was surfing the net and clicked on something,
now he cannot connect to the internet as when he tries to
to connect this comes up in the address bar:

c\searchpage.html#1507

everytime i try to remove the address from the interent
home page settings, it reverts back to the above address.
Also Norton Antivirus has expired 2 months ago

any help would be very welcome

This is an issue with Norton software, and you should either uninstall it or
contact symantec support for assistance.
