C-Media 8768 Sound Card Driver?

Hi, has anyone got a C-Media 8768 Driver that works with S/PDIF (used as a
MCPC). Vista Beta 2 recognises and installs the card as an 8738 which does
not have S/PDIF. If I try to run the XP Driver install prog from C-Media I
get a BSOD from Vista.
Thanks
Nathan

Hi Nathan:

I'm running Vista Beta2 (latest and dual-booting w/ XP Pro SP2) and
have a Turtle Beach Montego DDL PCI card that uses the C-Media 8768
chip.

When I first installed the card ontp XP, I was warned off TB's
software/drivers and advised to use the reference drivers fron the
C-Media site instead.

Operating System: Windows® XP/ 2000 / ME / 98SE

2.7 MB

I installed them for XP Pro SP2 and also for the same model card in my
MCE2005 system.

They work fine in both systems whether for 2 channel stereo or when
encoding/playing 5.1 DDL on the fly.

I only use the optical S/PDIF OUTs.

TB has since released newer unbuggy drivers but I haven't yet
bothered.

In Vista as I recall, it wanted to install its own C-Media drivers but
they wouldn't work. Maybe they only work for on-board chips. Dunno.

When I tried to install the C-Media drivers/software mentioned above
it couldn't find them.

What I did was to r-click the C-Media setup.exe file and choose XP
Compatibility Mode (I think its named that).

I ran the file.
There was a quick blue flash screen and the computer rebooted. lol.
Then I searched again for the drivers/software in Device Manager and
there were the drivers I wanted listed.
I chose/installed them and all is well.

Audio fully functional with the C-Media software to adjust the
settings. Just like my other 2 O/Ss.

Again, I just use the S/PDIF optical OUT.

Hope something in the above helps and happy trailz,

Fleabus
