C drive doesn't open when we double click

Hi,
I am not able to open any drive just by double clicking it, I have to
right click it & explore it inorder to open it. After few weeks I was not
able to open any exe files. Now I bought a new Hard disk & it was working
fine & I need to copy some important files from my old hard drive, once I
copied the files, I started getting the same issue with the new Hard drive
also, is it because of virus? Everytime I double click my C drive I see
wscript.exe in task manager. Help please.

WSCRIPT should not be in your Task Manager
after reboot. (Consider its function.) But this is
probably not the reason why EXEs fail. Suspect
a virus.

It sure sounds like it. Did you take the precaution of scanning your
backed up data files with a current version antivirus using updated
virus definitions? If not, then you probably copied the virus over and
need to do some cleanup.

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to
do all scans in Safe Mode.

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Multi-AV - instructions
http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/sicherheit/35905/multi_av_scanning_tool.html
- download site

The site is in German but David's tool is in English so don't let that
worry you. Scroll all the way down to almost the bottom of the page and
you'll see a box titled "Infos Zum Download - Multi-AV Scanning Tool".
You'll see "Download von www pctipp.ch" and the live link to download
Multi_AV.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the first link above (not here, please).

Standard caveat: If the procedures look too complex - and there is no
shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all local shops
are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may
be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. Have all
your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.

I cannot open any drive by double clicking the drive letter. It says 'Choose
the programe you want to use to open this file.' In the top of this dialogue
box it says: 'Open With'. Now, I right click on START button and click
Explore to see and use the contents of disk drives. I am using AVG free
edition Anti-virus and it does not find any virus now, but found virus before
and healed successfully (?). I am using XP Home Edition.
Please help me which file is missing or corrupt to be replaced for fixing
the problem.

Right-click on the icon for the drive and see if there is an auto.inf
file there. If there is, delete it.
