Since installing SP2 I am forced to Log on each time I boot up. I installed
Tweak which gives an option to bypass Log on. It does not work!! You can
reboot only once without having to log on. Thereafter XP reverts back to the
old process of requiring you to Log on at each boot up. What "tweak" will
really permanently bypass Log on.
Thank you for any help here.

Hi Jerry

If you want to bypass the Welcome screen, try this:

From Start>Run type in

control userpasswords2

then uncheck 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer' and click 'Apply'. On the next screen - 'Automatically Log On' -
delete the name 'Administrator' from the User name box and enter your
account name and then the password in the next two boxes. OK your way out
and then reboot your system.

Thank You.
However, before I start this procedure, does it matter that I have not
assigned or used a password?

Hi

Without a password, Tweak UI would usually work. Do you see any error
messages after trying the Tweak UI workaround? Anything in Event Viewer as
to why it's not working?

I don't not know why Tweak would not do the trick. Your directions were
right on. Thank you very much for your help. You men are doing a great job
monitoring these forums. We (I) appreciate your efforts. Many a problem
solved here.

I'm having a similar problem. I've checked in userpasswords2 and the box
mentioned by you is unchecked. Unless I check it nothing else can be
touched. I guess I'm missing something here. I want to bypass a user logon
and go right to the welcome screen. But I'm always blocked by a screen
coming up making me right click to go on booting. Can you suggest how I can
make this work more smoothly?

Check it, and Apply. Now uncheck it and Apply again. At that point
you will get a dialog to specify the user account and password that you
want to use. This bypasses Welcome and logon; if you have a screen
coming up *before* Welcome, it is something else - please describe in
more detail
