When I try to install a driver for this SCSI card I get the following message;
"The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry.
This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your
hardware vendor."
Does this mean I need an uptodate driver for XP, and if it does, does anyone
know where I can get one. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

The message means that XP does not have a driver for this card and it won't
work.

Yes, there are cards that do not work with XP. Further, I see that this
card doesn't appear to have worked with Windows 2000 either.

It's possible that you will be able to find a driver for this card, but
considering that MS has not supported it for two major OS releases, chances
are slim. The mention of WIndows 2000 dates this card as fairly old.

Buslogic, if they still exist (buslogic.com sells vacation and dating links)
probably have little or no motivation for writing drivers for this device.

Would suggest that you consider a newer device, or the reason you want to
use SCSI at all - newer interfaces may have overcome the issues SCSI did at
much lower cost, to the level that matters for you.

Hi Patrick, thanks for the swift and informative reply. I am using the SCSI
card as an interface for a tape drive for back-up purposes so I will try to
hunt around to see if anyone, anywhere has a driver that will solve my
problem. I suppose my other alternative is to find another scsi card which XP
supports. Once again many thanks.

Lots of good SCSI cards out there that XP likes. Ye olde Adaptec 2940
is a solid workhorse card. I'm sot sure if they're still sold new, but
it should be easy to find a used one, they're very common.

The same card has been little changed in 10 years. DOS likes it, 9x
likes it, 2k and XP like it.

You're most welcome. I myself have "a couple of" cards and devices that
won't work with XP.

Since backups are often critical, I'd suggest that you also consider other
backup types, such as CD/RW or DVD/RW. or an online storage service. With
discs, it's easy to make an extra safety copy for someone to store offsite,
and they are fairly durable.

Thanks everyone for your excellent advice and information. It looks like I
will have to take another avenue to implement this.
