BUSlink external drive & XP - HELP

I just bought a Compaq Presario and for some reason it will not recognize my
BUSlin 80g USB 2.0 external drive (CO-80-U2FE). I have most of my software
and documents on it. The computer keeps telling me "USB device not
recognized". I check the USB section in controls and it is shown as Unknown
Device but I go to details and it says device is working properly and it
does not show on Explorer. I went to BUSlinks site and they tell me to
download driver which I did and ran but the computer still will not
recognize the drive. It ran fine on the old P3 WIN 98.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Thank You in advance

I just had a similar problem with my
machine. In my case the problem was there
wasn't a drive letter assigned
to the external drive. Assigning one fixed all.
Try controlpanel/AdminTools/ComputerManagement/DiskManagement/
Right Click the drive.

Thank you, but the comp would not let me add a drive letter it would only
change one that existed. The ex-drive has two (?) firewire connection ports
also so I tried connecting to one of those via 1394 and the comp now accepts
the drive and gives it a drive letter of its own. I would like to copy all
the data on a CD or DVD then reformat the drive would you or anyone out
there know if its OK to format it NTSF now since I am only running XP ?
Thanks for the help
