Windows XP Burning/Reading DVD

I have had my Dell PC since 2002/3. I have very recently upgraded my Roxio to Roxio Creator 9. I have made two videofiles and burnt them to my DVD drive which is of course_NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A. When I played back the DVD the film kept "sticking", stopping and starting and I was unable to copy the film.

The first time I used the Roxio 9 software, I appeared to have no problem with the completed DVD. Do I need to upgrade,is the software compatible,etc,etc.
HELP!
