I used the feature in Windows XP to burn files to a CD-RW using the
built-in cd burning feature in XP. I burned the CD, and it appeared
to have worked. When I took the CD to my other PC to copy the files
off the CD, it wouldn't work. I received an error that it couldn't
copy from the source disk, whcih I thought was odd. When I went back
to the other PC to reburn the files, the files were gone.

Is there anyway of recovering the files? I am in really need of some
help. I already have checked the CD burning folder and there is
nothing there. I tried the PC inspector file recovery software and
that couldn't find them. Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks-

That sounds like a hardware incompatibility of the two machines. One
possibility that then arises is that you put it in a burner on the other
machine, which saw it as blank and set out to format it for packet
writing. If so it will probably be irrecoverable. I would get a trial
download of Nero from www.nero.com, and use that (not its Express
wizard, and cancel its 'New' dialog on load). Look with its Recorder -
Disk Info to see what it can see. If it does see a session already
there, use File - New - CD (ISO) and 'continue multisession' to import
the last session already present, then add a couple of files in the
compilation, and burn, telling it to Finalise disk. But I don't hold
out too much hope
