WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO DAMN DIFFICULT

things were simpiler 20 years ago ......you just put in a tape and pressed
record

What do you want to do with your DVD when you've finished with it?

Play it in a standalone DVD player? Use it on your PC?

XP has no built in facility to record onto DVD. You have to use third party
software such as Roxio or Nero or any number of other DVD burning
applications.

You can burn the files just in their native forms, just as if you were
'transferring' files from PC to CD and use it as a data DVD but it probably
won't play in a standalone DVD player. Or you can use third party software
to convert it into a DVD format which will happily play on a DVD standalone.
