Can i insert an asterisk to the left of a bulleted list, without using a text
box?
the asterisk has to move with the bullet when other items are added or
deleted.

As far as I know, you cannot include text with a bullet character in a
bulleted list. Instead, you will have to use an "ordinary" paragraph with a
hanging indent; then add the asterisk and the bullet as text characters (use
the Symbol dialog box to insert the bullet). For easy insertion, you can set
this up as a formatted AutoCorrect entry.
