Bulk change of phone number

Hi all,
I just got a phone that synchonizes with Outlook (2003). Now that I
have all the contacts in my phone I realized the telephone numbers
don't have "1" preceeding the area code. Here in L.A. you have to dial
the whole thing, even to call you neighbor. I don't want to manually
edit all the numbers to add the "1".
Do you know if there's a way to tell Outlook to add it programmatically
to every telephone number?
Any other suggestions welcome.
BTW - I have not found such a setting on the phone.

it's a modem configuration setting - look in control panel, modem.

After you've corrected the modem and dialing options as recommended by
Diane, you'll probably have to double-click each phone number to get Outlook
to remask it or you can see if this helps:
