built in snthesizer does not play some midis

I have some MIDI files from a MIDI site. They are renditions of some of John
Willaims' songs.
Some of them do not play correctly on Windows Vista. I have a hot fix, but
when others play back, the sound effects are gone.
Kind of confusing.
"Close Encounters of the Third Kind Disco Theme" without the fix misses a
piano, and goes straight to drums.
With the fix, it plays correctly, all instrumunts that are supposed to be
there play.
"Ghostbusters" MIDI has some GS sound effects at the beginning. Withoout the
fix, it plays correctly with the sound effects (ghost, girl scream,
telepehone, door open, door close, engine startup, siren, tires squeal as
they head out. then the famous song.
With the fix, all I get is several telephone rings and a wind, and then the
song.
Windows Vista Home Premium Fully Patched as of 1-8-08, unofficial hotfix not
sure of the number as it was not released officaily, but will be in SP1,
Sigmatel HD Audio, Dell Diminsion E521

I have an External Synthesizer which was connected to the Gameport of the
SoundBlaster LIve Card under XP with two 5-pin plugs into the Synthesizer
for MIDI-In and MIDI-Out. After installing Vista 32-bit Home Premium, I had
to change the SoundCard to SoundBlaster Audigy 5.1 which has no Gameport.
Would it be possible to use a USB port on the Pentium motherboard and get a
connector with two 5-pin plugs for the Synthesizer end? Does Vista have a
built-in driver for handling an external synthesizer? Will the synthesizer
play midi instrument tunes sent out from the PC?

ok. I found two new versions and they play just fine.
Looking for a better version of "Stand By Me" and found one I did 12 years
ago. Sheesh. Talk about bad luck.
That was the only gripe I had. Thanks, Curt.

Might be time to update your song collection.
BTW Service Pack #1 for Vista MIDI support is great.
