Building your own is a great learning experience

My Current machine Specs: Windows XP - Pentium 4 2.8 ghz - 1 GB DDR
- X1600 Pro 512 mb
2 hd's (40 gb & 60 gb) - 2 DVD Drives

While the above system seems "Ancient" I have learned so much
building it that I would feel confident if I ever decide to build
another one. The only problem is I spent over $1000.00 to build the
machine a few years ago and today I would be lucky to get $500.00 if I
decide to sell it.

Consider the fact that on that first build you got the education to give
yourself the knowledge, satisfaction and confidence to go build again.
Money spent that way is hardly unreasonable.

Either that or you got your butt handed to you. I'll probably keep
building just to avoid vista, but I won't likely enjoy it.

And the resale value is irrelevant, what matters is the difference between
what he paid and what he could have bought built that has the same specs.

You shouldnt need keep building to avoid vista, you should be able
to install anything you prefer on what you buy instead with a bit of
sensible selection of what you buy.
