I have set up a computer to try XP Pro. I have installed the old trial
version Build 2600.
I bought XP Pro and tried to upgrade but it says that I can't.
I have a lot of software installed and only want to upgrade the install not
redo it.
Can anyone tell me how to upgrade XP Build 2600?
Thank you,
Jay

Build 2600 wasn't a "trial" or evaluation build, it was the original
RTM (Release To Manufacturing) final version. If the CD you're using
says that it can't perform an upgrade, it's probably because you
purchased an OEM version.

An OEM CD cannot be used to perform an upgrade of an earlier OS, as it
was designed to be installed _only_ upon an empty hard drive. It can
still be used to perform a repair installation (a.k.a. an in-place
upgrade) of an existing WinXP installation.
