Buffer Overrun

I have SP4 installed and the latest security updates. When
I try to open explorer.exe or iexplore.exe (My Computer,
IE, Control Panel, etc.) I get a Microsoft VIsual C++ error
w/ buffer overrun in explorer.exe or iexplore.exe.
Everything else is working. I scanned the PC for viruses
and it came back clean. Any ideas short of rebuilding this
PC from scratch?

PS
I sent this in this newsgroup using Opera (since IE is
nonfunctioning).

Have you tried sfc /scannow?
