Buffer over run detected

Hi.

i installed a small software for burning CD's on my
windows 2000 server (SP4). soon after i cant open windows
and internet explorer. error reads

visual c++ run time library

buffer overrun detected!
program: c:\winnt\explorer.exe

a buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the
programs internal state. the program cannot safely
continue execution and will now be terminated.

then the screen goes blank. i have to press the 3 magic
buttons to log off and log in again.

i would advise trashing the 'small software' and get a good package.

hi...found a solution

well i removed the software completely. still it did not
work.
i then used AD_AWARE spyware removal and the problem got
solved

I am having the same problem! I installed an ran Ad-aware and did a scan but I am still getting this error. What else did you do to correct this? I cannot access my internet explorer. Message reads: "A buffer overrun detected" Program C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Iexplore.exe.

If you get one of the later Burner programs, they handle most all of that,
unless you have an older RW.
May be wrong, but I went through the whole gauntlet of both, beginning with
NT 4.0 the first day it came out.
