I have yet to look/research but my eldest daughter wants to buy a camera to take on holiday with her as her Canon Ixus died recently, lcd screen went black.

Budget is £100 to £120 with about another £20 to £30 available to buy Case/Memory card/spare battery

I've told her, in that price range, to go for Panasonic or Canon with Samsung and Sony possibilities.

So before I go searching, anybody here bought a camera in that price range they're happy with?

Suggestions welcome :)

Go for Panasonic or Canon, I have bought these two for others doing my own research and they are very good indeed. The users are also very happy with them and love the results they are getting.

If you need more input from me just ask for it and will be more than happy to oblige. :D

wee bit more than you wanted to spend but it looks like a nice camera and a very good price on the bundles.

The word was 'compact' but thanks for the link anyway Abarb.

It's also 30 quid over budget, which is 25% of the available budget - too much.

Should have mentioned, as she's a young female, it has to be tiny and look good.

This could prove to be problematic, we shall see.

My picks as top performers in their respective price range

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-Power...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263929859&sr=8-1

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-L...4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263929953&sr=1-4

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-L...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263929953&sr=1-2

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-SDH...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263929953&sr=1-18

You will be hard pressed to get a better deal on the respective models in the price bracket.

But you know a lot more about camera's than an average person, so I know you will pick the best for your daughter. :)

Cracking set of cameras Quad. I think i'd have to go for one of the lumix's if it was me. Just personal choice i guess. :)

Must admit, i didn't realise how cheap a good Digital Camera is now a days! I think i paid close to £200 for my Sony W170 when i got it, it was a while back but still...

The key to my keeping abreast with the times is to continue helping folks with the camera choices and I have been doing that for donkeys years. Therefore I can come up with good deals as my research is always done prior to advise.

Not only that I also get the feedback from those folks and this is a comforting feeling to have.

This is my hobby and I love it to death. :)

Panasonic has really impressed me lately in terms of their offerings, the other good thing about the Panasonic is the lens incorporated in all of their camera's - Leica! they are trying their best to capture the market by offering more than what one pays for them, one of the best buys today for the consumer. They are not just reasonably priced but offer good quality and are praised both by the industry and consumers alike.

I recently advised few people to go for it and they were very happy with the purchase.

When you have time check them out, particularly their models FZ35/38 and LX3. Two of the best in thier respective categories beating all the top brands out there including Nikon and Canon.

The Panasonic FS7 is a contender. Good spec, good looking, within price range.

In fact, I'm sold on it, if she likes the look of it then I'll advise her to buy it.

But - you know how fussy females are, we shall see ;)

Thanks for the links Mr Quad :)

Thanks for the links Mr Quad :)

Here is a link for her to choose from, this model comes in few colour choices so make sure she knows that colour choice is there. Besides, the link will also show you what else you need to buy besides the unit itself.

Take a look at these great cameras, one is fully automatic and the other has manual controls if you want to play around with, I recently bought the Lumix fx35/38 for my niece and she is happy with the purchase.

However, the Panasonic LX3 is probably one of the best compact cameras available in the market today, even the pro's start drooling when they realise what is on offer at such a low price. Many pro's buy it as back up!

I have got the "Canon PowerShot A590" mentioned in Quad's first link. It is small enough to be easily toted around, and as Quad has already said, it has plenty of manual plus auto settings. It takes respectable videos too. The camera is a joy to use. :thumb:

I showed her all options and she's gone for a silver Panasonic FS7 with a soft case at £6.00 and an 8Gb memory card for around £12.00 making a total of £126.00.

I have yet to source a spare battery but those Hong Kong dealers on E-Bay and Amazon do good deals.

She thought the pink version of the FS7 was 'yucky'. I agree, but I was surprised.

She'll be getting this for her 23rd birthday on St Valentines day.

Very good choice!

As for battery I agree paying that much for original is ridiculous, you can wait for a while for the price to come down or go for an OEM.

I'm very wary of them. Bought something from one of them and it never arrived. Turned out to be a very dodgy company. However, I did get my money back as I'd used Paypal.

Always use British companies on eBay now.

I've bought several items from abroad, inc. Hong Kong, never had a prob.

I do tend to only use Amazon for that though, dealers don't last long with Amazon if they let customers down.

Good batteries too, I have two spare batteries for my Canon G9 purchased that way.
