bsod

Hi,

FYI, don't talk too technical to me! Have dell inspiron 5150 laptop. XP
Pro. Had to bring it to a seminar and had not used it for about a month. I
updated the s/w that I needed AND ran Norton Live Update for virus updates.
Something would not update. I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton AV 2005.
Seemed ok.

When I went to the seminar, BSOD. The seminar was run by the company who's
s/w I had updated (Husqvarna Viking 3D Pro s/w). Laptop went into BSOD and
did a memory dump.

One of their people was able to get the desktop recovery window and get into
control panel and remove their software update I had installed for the
seminar, but to no avail. So, I think it is Norton. I cannot find the
entire error message anywhere on ms. It is:

0x00000044 (0x82B2DBF8, 0x00000D62, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Error says
something about rebooting and getting into Safe Mode, but I don't know what
to do from there.

I found a reference to Linux in one error message on the MS Knowledge Base,
but do not have it to the best of my knowledge, and don't know what to do.

Help. Thanks.

A STOP 0x0000004 is a MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS error.

See MVP Jim Eshelman's web page for STOP errors at
http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm and click on the "44: Multiple
IRP Complete" link in the left side column.

Good luck

Thank you Ron. Went to MVP Jim Eshelman's web page for help and got lots of
useful info there, but not the final fix. The end result, was to get into
safe mode and uninstall Norton Firewall. Since the laptop is rarely online,
the XP firewall will have to do for now. There was some looping going on,
where the, I think Norton Commom Client, does that sound right? would not
fully load on boot up. Uninstalling the d--n thing did the trick. Don't
know why but am a happy camper again.
