Hello Forum,

I would like some expert help on this problem. I have an HP Notebook
(laptop), this blue screen comes on with full page of information, I see it
for 2 seconds. It does
not let me read what the problems are. No matter how much money I put in to
fixing it, it still comes on. What can I do about it?

This screen comes on about 3 or 4 times in an evening. I feel like
destroying the laptop, but I know that won't help and I would have to go out
and buy another one.

Any help on this matter would greatly be appreciated. Thank You!!!

Sincerely, Tim

Hi Tim:

We need information from the blue screen to help you.

To see the blue screen instead of having it flash by:
Control Panel | System | Advanced tab | Startup and Recovery - Settings
button | remove the check mark from System Failure - Automatically restart

Next time you see the blue screen record the STOP error number. It
begins with 0x000... Also record the name of the error, which appears
after 0x000...

Post again with this information.

If the computer is restarting after the Blue Screen then Earl Grey has
given you the answer.

If the blue screen just disappears and the computer continues running
then you need to look for the event record for it. Right-click on My
Computer and select Manage. Expand the Event Viewer category (click
on the + sign) and browse through the various categories looking for
red or yellow flagged events whose date and time stamps correspond to
the blue screens. Double click on an event to see the details. Post
that information back here.

Good luck

HI Earl,

I appreciate your responding very quickly. I have followed your advice and
removed the check mark from system failure, now I'll wait for that screen and
when I see it, I'll tell you the error infomation and number.

I have read some of the other threads that you have as well as Ron
Martell's. You 2 seem to have a good range of intelligence that the rest of
us need. I have many other questions to ask, but I won't plague you with
them. I would like to ask you what the error message means when it says the
following (Stack Overflow at line:95)? I get it when I'm on the internet -
(6.0), or on the start of the Newsgroup Discussion board.

In the meantime thank you again!!! Sincerely, Tim

P.S. - Please stay on the message board, because I have other problems for
you to solve for me, Thanks!

Hi Tim:

You're not paying Ron Martell any great complement by mentioning my name
together with his. He's got a lot more knowledge and experience than I. :-)

In general, to diagnose an error message we need to know what program
displays the message, the exact text of the message and under what
circumstances it appears, being as specific as possible.

Hi Ron,

Thanks very much for responding. You and your partner-(Earl) really seem to
know my problem. I took Ron Martell's advice and I'm going to see what
happens.

I took your advice and went to (Event viewer), and found this trouble, and I
don't have the slightest idea what it means, so this is what it said:

Source: Application Error
Type: Error
Description: Faulting application Svchost.exe, Version 5.1.2600.2180,
faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, Fault address 0x00018fea

Ron, I have heard of the (Svchost.exe), thats it. I don't understand it. I
get it quite a bit.

I have HP Notebook-windows XP-Internet Explorer vs 6.0.

Thanks for help, I appreciate it!

Sincerely, Tim

Tim

You need to post complete Error Reports from Event Viewer or from any
other source for that matter. Posting part means the recipient has to
guess or not bother to reply. You want them to do neither.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Does this error appear as an isolated error in Event Viewer? Are
there any Error or Warning Reports in Event Viewer before the Error
appears? If yes please post complete copies! No Information Reports
please.

Have you compared the time in the Error Report with the time BSOD
error occurred as it not unknown where a number of errors are
occurring for a user to overlook the error report coinciding with the
BSOD and post a copy of another.

Some errors involving svchost.exe are the result of malware activity,
others are not. What are your anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall
arrangements? Have you carried out full scans in safe mode with
updated defintions?

Gerry,

Even with my father's help I couldn't get it to work. When I saw the button
resembling 2 pages, I hit button and closed (Event Viewer) and I could not
get past that. I know you explained it in laymans terms, but could you
explain what I should do again? Sorry to ask!

I thought the description and error that I posted was good but there must be
something else your looking for. Thank You again!

Sincerely, Tim

Tim

When you click the button resembling 2 pages the report is added to
your Clipboard. There is no visible indication that anything has
happened, which could be confusing you. If you select paste with any
open file i.e. open email message or open Word file it copies from
the Clipboard to the open document, providing you have not used the
copy command before doing the paste.

Hi Gerry,

Thanks for explaining it twice. My Dad and I surprise ourselves, we think we
did right. Hope this is what your looking for. I know you instructed me not
to give an information log and it looks as though thats what I did. I hope
this will help you figure out the situation.

We thank you for your patience, hope we can learn something from your
teaching lesson.

Sincerely, Tim

Tim

I think you have said this an HP Notebook. Please provide the model
and advise when it was purchased new.

You have not provided any details regarding the BSOD Stop Error. To
move forward I need a copy of that Report. Is Automatic Restart still
turned off.?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on the
My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Copying Event Viewer reports. You were sucessful but next time please
provide only one copy of the Report. You posted four identical copies
of the same report i.e. they all had a the the same date / time stamp.
