i have stopped the system rebooting when it gets the BSOD, but how do I stop
the BSOD appearing so I can look at logs etc?

Please post an exact copy of the Stop Error Report. If by logs
you mean the mini dump I would forget it unless you are a computer
expert as they are very difficult to interpret / understand.

Hope this helps.

boot your pc, whilst booting up keep pressing F8 key and start pc in
safe mode.

in safe mode right click My Computer select properties, then select the
Advanced tab, then select start and recovery Settings, locate System
Failure, place a tick in all the check box's listed, then select ok,
then apply, then reboot in normal mode.

if you still receive BSOD post the dump report!

if it boots ok then go to start\settings\control panel\Administrative
Tools\event viewer

within the event viewer select Application or system log for critical
errors

in most cases right click the error select properties a hyperlink
should be available to click, microsoft will supply a report for that
error

I'd just like to know how to stop the system going to a blue screen.

Is there such a method?

What is a computer expert exactly?

the above stops the blue screen if activated

a dump report is written in machine code, Hex, a computer is one big
calculator it only understands 1's and 0's

1 = on
0 = off

i understand and Interoperate dump reports

the main question is - do you want to fix your problem?

if so read the above!

Please post an exact copy of the Stop Error Report. We cannot
help without reliable information as to the cause.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties,
Advanced, StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck
box before Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

There will also be Error Reports in Event Viewer. Please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
