BSOD Prevents ANY installations on Vista Ultimate

I just recently built myself a very shiny new computer.

Specs:

Core 2 Duo 3.0 Ghz
4GB Crucial DDR2 800 RAM
EVGA 8800GT 512 MB
Asus Striker Extreme 680i

I installed a previous version of WinXP Home onto my blank harddrive because
I heard MSFT were being idiots and a Vista Ultimate Upgrade wouldn't install
(easily) on a completely blank HDD. XP Home installed w/o a hitch, installed
Vista. Selected a clean install, and here's the first problem: I'M STILL
GETTING THE DUAL BOOT SCREEN! I don't know what's going on with that, but
it's not bugging me too much (turned the wait time to 0).

Now, I got Vista all happy and updated from Microsoft, managed to install
the Motherboard's drivers, and then went to install my graphics card drivers.
Here's where things got interesting.

Halfway through install, I recieved a "driver_irlq_not_less_or_equal"
message w/ a "0x000000D1" etc tag attached to it. I next went to see if
there was a better driver from nvidia, tried to install it, and got the same
error. So I tried some Window's update and hotfixes, and got the same error
during each of their installs. I even tried, just for yucks, installing a
new driver for my mouse and keyboard, and got the same error. It seems I
can't install anything without getting this error!

Is there anything I can do? I really want to run dx10. It hurt me terribly
to pay MSFT to buy their faulty software, but I need these graphics!

I would start over.
If you are getting a dual boot screen, you probably installed Windows
Vista on a different partition.
Next time be sure you choose the upgrade option.

Also be sure all your hardware is compatible with windows Vista.
If there is any possibility something is not compatible, remove it if
possible.
Also disconnect any peripherals such as camera, scanner etc.
Leave nothing but what is absolutely necessary for installation.
The removed hardware can be installed later.
