BSOD - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - PLEASE HELP!

D

Dan

I am having dreadful problems trying to get my computer to run as
normal, even with a fresh install. When performing memory-hungry
functions such as OCRing a long text or drag and dropping a large
number of tiffs into Adobe Acrobat I get a BSOD.

The latest one came out as

STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x93E77E01)

but other BSODs have centred around

ntoskrnl.exe
nv4-mini.sys
sojubus.sys

other times the machine just restarts.

Looking at my system information, lots of important devices seem to be
sharing the same IRQ, which I think is leading to the problem:

Resource Device
IRQ 11 NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X
IRQ 11 Adaptec AHA-2910C/2915C/2920C/2930C PCI SCSI Controller
IRQ 11 VIA USB Universal Host Controller
IRQ 11 VIA USB Universal Host Controller
IRQ 11 VIA USB Universal Host Controller
IRQ 11 VIA PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
IRQ 11 Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

How can I go about changing which device uses which IRQ? Is this
indeed the problem? Do the memory addresses in the BSOD relate to the
memory ranges below, so that I can tell which device driver is causing
the problem? Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Any help would be most gratefully received!

Further system info follows.

Has nothing to do with IRQ numbers. See here for an explanation:

The page says 'Make sure that you are using hardware that appears on
the Windows Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)'. Looking at the list,
all my devices are on, except for my graphics card (Gainward GeForce4
MX 440 w 8X AGP). However, it has the same nVidia chip set, so am
still at a loss ... :0(

When did the BSOD's start? Before or after this particular video
card was installed? Although the same chipset may be used and the
OS is rated with the listed cards, it does not necessarily mean that
this particular vendor's video bios might be making the same calls
as, for instance, an Asus nVidia card with the same chipset. Both
nv4-mini.sys and sojubus.sys are not stock Windows 2000 files. And
also, what version of Adobe Acrobat? If Acrobat 6, has it been
updated to 6.1? These might just be some of the contributing factors.

Hi Again,

Although the same chipset may be used and the
OS is rated with the listed cards, it does not necessarily mean that
this particular vendor's video bios might be making the same calls
as, for instance, an Asus nVidia card with the same chipset.

I have a spare PCI VGA card, so will give that a whirl instead. I
usually just buy ATI branded VGA cards (to be on the safe side) -
that'll teach me for going for a cheaper option!
also, what version of Adobe Acrobat?

I have Acrobat 5.0.5 installed, ScanSoft OmniPage Pro and the other
app which it crashes on is a Translation Memory program called Deja Vu
(www.atril.com). Everything else, Office XP, WinFax Pro etc. seems
happy to play along.

Thanks for your help,

b10
