i'm having trouble using the search engine; i enter for
ex: candles in my search engine and it returns a
messaging saying this page cannot be found. but i am
able to go to different websites. just can't use the
search engine

Try using Google search. To make it our default search engine for IE,
copy the following into Notepad, then save it as google.reg. Then, in
Windows Explorer, right click on the file and select Merge. Run IE,
click on the Search button.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Search Page"="http://www.google.com"
"Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL]
""="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
"SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie"

You have the QHosts trojan, a new malicious program that works through IE.
The patch is available for download here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/828750/default.asp

About 18 hours ago, Kenrick Fu posted here that MS has
just released a patch to prevent this new attack. At the link,
you may proceed to download, or you may first want to
read more here:

Look in the Task Manager for a process called "Hosts" or something similar.
I believe this is the file you need to delete.

Also, there is a news article at ZDNet.com:
