I could use some guidance on the following:
I have two computers setup in a Workgroup. One computer is a W2K pro and
the other is XP Pro SP2. I have shared a folder on the XP box and have setup
the W2K box to map a drive to this share. My problem is that it takes an
extreme amount of time to browse this share (20-30 seconds). Even longer
when doing a browse from Word. Currently there is approx 5000 files in this
one directory taking up 180MB. Is this an issue? I was told by the person
using the system that it used to be faster in the past. It appears that SP2
was installed sometime during this.
I have disabled all virus protection, firewall, spyware, etc to no avail. I
also put the data on the W2K box and reversed the share and it also was slow.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
