browser will not close by using cross

Can anyone tell me if there is a command that i need to
use to be able to close browser pages on internet as cross
in top right hand corner will not close pages nor will any
other command apart from task manager,

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
