Browser Based App Raises CPU to 100% Utilization

We are trying to run a browser based process on several of our desktop
systems. However when we run this browser based process the CPU utilization
rises to 100% no matter what desktop system we use. Each system is different
in that one has 512Mbs of RAM on a Pentium 4 2.0Ghz and the other has over
1.2Gbs. of RAM on a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz but both experience the same issue with
this process. All calculations are done on the serve which the user accesses
via a browser. They have I.E. 6.0 on an XP SP2 desktop.
Since the calculations are done on the server what would cause the
desktop CPU to reach 100% from a browser based application? It took over 40
minutes to process and it still hadn't finished. One system shut down. Any
ideas on what the problem might be?
