Browse List Problems

Hi,

I have a client who has a small peer-to-peer network at his office. The
network consists of four workstations (1 running Windows 98, 3 running
Windows 2000 SP4) all of which are members of the same workgroup. One of the
Windows 2000 workstations (call it Computer B) does not appear to be properly
participating in browsing. When I open up My Network Places on the
workstation it lists three of the computers in the workgroup, but does not
list itself. Also, I am able to connect to two of the three computers
listed, but not the third (Computer A). It comes back saying "Network Path
Not Found" (performing a Net View \\Computer A generates the same basic
result, this time with System Error 53). I am able to connect to Computer A
from the other workstations in the workgroup and can even connect to Computer
B from Computer A.

I tried removing Computer B from the workgroup and adding it to one of its
own to see what happened and it still does not show up. I removed and
reinstalled the File and Print Sharing service and verified that the system
is up to date with its patches.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

If the event logs of the Windows 2000 computers show a lot of browser
elections I'd force one PC to be the master browser and disable the other
computers from becoming a master browser. See this article for information
on browsers and network browsing:
