Brother laser 1240 fuzzy streaks

I have a Brother 1240 laser printer. For the second time now, it prints
with a background fuzzy streaks. The very first time, I changed the TN460
cartridge and the problem went away. Now the same thing happened with the
2nd cartridge after a year. The printing seems fine otherwise and it does
not appear to be running out of toner. Can anyone help? I hate to have to
cough up for another cartridge especially if this one still has a lot of
toner left.

Check if the cartridge is remanufactured or is an original one.

Its like a few wide grey bands. The letters and other prints are still very
black and sharp.

I suspect a toner dirt in a cartridge/printer electric contact. Remove the
cartridge and clean the electric contact (I cannot recall where it is).
