Broadband signal strong but cannot go online

I run WinXp Pro on my laptop. I have just connected it to my home's ADSL
Broadbank via an ADSL modem directly for the first time. The laptop recognise
the network connection showing very strong signals. Howevber I could not get
on the network/internet.
I had a look at the tcpip propertices and they seems fine with dynamic DNS.
I have tried setting the LAN settings to both "automatic detect settings" and
then "using proxy server for LAN" but no sucess in both cases. All the time,
the network connection signal remains very strong.
PLease advise. Thanks.

Hi,

Just a thought, are u connecting directly to the ADSL modem, or via a
router?

If I understood correctly (which might not be), you're connecting directly
with a LAN cable to the ADSL modem. If this is the case, you need to create
a network connection.

Click Network Connections, Create a New Connection, and then select Connect
To The Internet, Set up my connection manually (or select from the ISP
list), and then enter your username and password and other information
provided by your ISP.

Good luck and hope this helps.
