Why would I be able to connect to internet via cable modem through a switch
on an XP Pro system, but no access to internet via interconected win 98 and
WinME systems cabled into same switch? If I direct connect cable modem to
NIC on any of the other PC's internet is accessable.

To connect multiple computers to the cable modem simultaneously
through a switch, you would need to get multiple IP addresses from
your cable ISP. If you only get one IP address, only one computer can
connect.

If you used ICS, all three could be on the Internet simultaneously.

An even better possibility (easier to set up, more reliable) would be
to get a broadband router, which could share the cable modem with all
three computers.
