Broadband Connection-USB vs NIC-Any differences?

From the get go (2+ years ago) I could not connect to my cable
internet using the NIC but could via USB 2.0 connection and have
continued to do so. By process of elimination I concluded the problem
is with the NIC. I could have it repaired under xtended warranty but
would prefer not to be without my PC for the 2-4 weeks they (Best Buy)
say it will take.

Can anyone give me a reason why I should be using the NIC connection
and not the USB - security issues, speed issues or anything else?

TIA
Jim

NONE whatsoever.

Only exception is if you desparately need the USB connection for other
device and then could put the Cable Modem on NIC!

There are pros and cons to both - usb uses processor and memory bandwith
(negligible with todays systems,) has issues with power management and some
experience unstable connectivity. Ethernet (NIC cards) can have driver
related problems, doesn't have the bandwidth of USB2 (10/100 vs. 480 - most
don't need 10) but I think it's generally more stable than usb. If you're
getting along with usb and aren't planning on ICS (internet connection
sharing) then stick with what you have.
