Broadband Card

I use a Verizon Broadband card with my laptop. It has it's own phone number
associated with it. Do I still have to use a fax service (per Dell) or can I
connect without subscription. I have tried to send a test fax and get the far
end dial tone is not detected. If I should be able to connect, what setting
should I change? Thx.

Generally, this type of card should be looked at as a Network Interface
Card; it's purpose is Internet connection, not telephone usage. Fax is
strictly a telephone entity. Fax services you subscribe to act as an
interface between the Internet world and the Telephone world (you send them
an email, they run this email through a Fax machine and send it to another
Fax machine). Having said that, if this card allows you to make voice phone
calls and acts like a telephone modem, you might be able to use it with XP
Fax. I say "might" because XP Fax is very picky about the modem used.
Verizon probably has a better handle on how to use this card.
