I changed from dial up to broadband yesterday, now when I click on windows
update from the start menu it tells me it cannot detect an internet
connection. How can I resolve this please. Internet Explorer and outlook
express are working ok

Just to be sure check internet options and the connection tab. Make sure
"never dial a connection" is selected and if you are never going to use
dialup again then remove the dial up setting.

If the internet is accessible through internet explorer then windows update
should be as well. You can try "windows update" via the "tools" menu in IE.

I assume your broadband is NTL and not through your telephone socket.

The same thing has happened to me using NTL (I have just switched over from
dial up) and I have already changed to "never dial a connection" The problem
only exists when trying to connect to "keep your computer up-to-date with
windows update" it says that "internet connection could not be established"
