I have a broadband connection with an adsl router which I have connected to a
switch to which 5 of my office pc's are working. All the pc's have winxp pro.
the adsl router is SMARTAX MT800 ADSL router - other than that I cannot fing
anything more about it.
The broadband is getting connected on only one PC but not from any other pc.
I have tried all possible setting for tcp/ip but failed.
When connecting on other pc it simply shows error that the computer not
responding !!! All the other network functions between pc's are working fine.
What might be wrong ??

Is that a true router? Or is it just an ADSL modem? I have seen my ISP
issue modems that are based on routers, but with the router functions
disabled. They only assign a single RFC 1918 IP address, so only one
computer will ever get an Internet connection; without doing some fancy
footwork.

If your ADSL modem is only assigning a single RFC 1918 IP address, and has
no accessible configuration menus to turn on a DHCP service (akin to the
SpeedStream 4100 my ISP issues), you may be able to share the Internet
anyway by assigning static IP addresses to the other computers.

As an example, if your one computer gets IP address 192.168.0.64, try
manually assigning IP addresses from 192.168.0.65, and up, on the computers
not getting connected. You will also have to manually set the gateway IP
address, which is the IP address on the modem, and the DNS sever IP
addresses, which you can find by running ipconfig on the Internet connected
computer.

I tried changing all ip addresses. eve for now all my pc's in network have
manually confugured ip adresses, even the one getting connected to net
through adsl. I checked the ip address of adsl with "ipconfig /all" when the
net is connected but it seems that address changes every time I disconnect
and reconnect...
I am not all that good in these networking stuff thats why am too confused
!!How can I check whether the adsl is a true router or not ??? Anyway I tried
and cannot access the confuguration menu for the adsl...
