Brightness

Hi all,

To display some of my photos correctly, i need to adjust the brightness of
my monitor, but that isn't a nice job. I'm looking for a utility to adjust
my screen brightness by software. (Preferably a tray icon.)

Your video card's software might've added some tabs to the Display
applet. Right-click on the desktop and select Properties (or run the
Display applet in Control Panel). Under the Settings tab, click
Advanced. See if your video software added a tab that lets you adjust
gamma and brightness. Even if it adds a tray icon, it might end up
bringing to this settings dialog, anyway.

settings dialog. So I need to have a real software-dependent program to
solve this.

You have just the driver installed. So why not visit nVidia's web site
and download the full software package from them?

It even includes an application profile manager (just as does ATI's
software) so you can specify a different color profile used when a
particular application gets loaded. That way, the change becomes
automatic and you don't have to be putzing around with any controls
(after initially defining the color profile).

Did you not get a manual for your GeForce video card? You could always
download one from their web site
(http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/...5_Graphics_Display_Property_Users_Guide.pdf);
the links are also on that driver download page.

Maybe you need just to do gamma correction of your photos.

Try the latest nvidia drivers. v56.64 was the first to include colour
correction.

what software are you vieving the photos in? adjusting the computer or
vidcard per photo is kinda like making DOT make the road rougher because
your tires are bald. any viewing software should be at least able to adjust
brightness/darkness per image.

Actually, You might be better served to use a picture editor (Even Irfan
viewer (Free)) to adhust the darker photos. The ultimate idea is to get the
display adjusted to "standard" settings that give you a decent display of
photos and applications without adjusting anything. There are "reference
standard" calibration photos available on the web that allow you to adjust
displays and printers .

Do not change the reference photos after downloading them with a photo
editor, or you will defeat the purpose of using them as a reference..
You can also use the photos as they are to adjust printers.
