I periodicall backup my computer into a zip file and then save to cdrom. Now
my zip file is over 1gig. Is there any way to break up this file into 2
files so each one can be saved on separate disks and then put back together
if I ever need them?

One way would be to get a file splitter app, you can search google for one.

If you are using WinZip, check its help manual on zip file splitting.
That's not the same thing as disk spanning.

Am I wrong in thinking that Winzip 8 will do it for CD roms? I know Winzip 8
splits files across floppies, but I can't see where to do it for CD roms.

goto 'actions' 'split' and select cdrom 700mb or whichever size you require
(also an option to choose a size)
