BOTH my DVD-ROM and my CD-R Burner, keep running back and fourth agaisnt my
will, with no cd's inside of them. First one will start to run. The "busy"
light (little green light) will turn on. You can hear something spinning and
everything like it's fully running. Then it'll stop and usually the other
cd-rom (the burner) will start doing the same thing. Sometimes they both
start running at the same time. There's absolutely no order or uniformed
pattern that is occurring. It's very random. One drive acting up for a bit
...then maybe again later ..or the other one will do it instead. Sometimes it
will do it for 10 minutes straight. Then it may take a break for an hour and
start up later.
About half the time that it happens, it freezes up my computer and even
rebooting is difficult because both rom drives want to keep running during
start up. When they're behaving this way, upon clicking My Computer and then
trying to get the properties from the drives, it will not let me access the
info until it's done having it's tantrum.
After it's done freezing up, when I select properties, both drives say that
everything is working fine.
Is there something inside the computer (a wire ect?) that both roms are
connected to and maybe there's an intermitent short or something like that?
I've scanned for viruses and spyware and everything else. It happens when
offline (during bootup) so I don't think it's a hacker but it's really weird
how both drives are simultaneously acting strange and running on their own.
Any ideas? I tried sticking cds in both drives, thinking if I could get it
to recognize some information, maybe it would somehow fix or reset the
problem but it did nothing.
Note* Both drives still work. I can Read and Burn Cd's with no problem.
...it's just when I'm not using the cd drives that for some reason they decide
to run anyway.
