If i try to put a border around 2 columns of text - there's no borderline
drawn where the text flow is - i.e. the bottom border of the 1 st column and
the top border of the 2nd column?

Hi JethroUK©,

1. Which version of Word?

2. What steps, exactly, did you use to create the borders?

3. Does the document also print this way?

If you've applied an outside border to all the paragraphs in the columns,
then the entire chunk of text is a single bordered item. To get a border at
the bottom of the first column and top of the second, you'd need to add a
Horizontal Inside Border to the relevant paragraphs (and you'd need to end
the first column at the end of a paragraph). Actually, if I end the column
at the end of a paragraph, I get a bottom/top border without adding an
inside border.

i get it now - Word can only fix borders around the text (not the columns) -
alas i cant use that method since the document will be edited

thanx for that

i'm currently drawing borders (using drawing tools) around the columns and i
think that's my best/only solution

If you want borders of a specific size around the columns on every page,
your best bet is to create them as drawing objects anchored to the header.
If you'd settle for a line between the columns, you can get that from the
Columns dialog (alas! it can't be modified wrt to weight or color).

This is one page? Why didn't you use a table?

If the text is not unduly long you can paste the text into a one-cell
table and apply a table box border.
