Hi. I first installed Windows XP pro on my D:\ HD, while I still kept my
Win 98 Se on my C:\ drive.
When booted up the Win XP on d: asked me what version of Win I wanted to
open.
Now, since I am very pleased with XP I scrapped the Win98 Se on my C:
drive and installed a full version of XP in place. Then I deleted the XP
on D:\
But still on boot, XP asks me what Windows version I want to use. There
is only the main Windows XP on C:\ left on my computer ! How and can I
get rid of this booting creen ?
Thanks for your help.

Answer here, on the news group, because my address is not a valid one up
there !

The option still appears because it still exists in the boot ini file. You
need to edit the boot ini file to delete the entry to the second copy of xp.

1/ Go to Control Panel
2/ Click the System Icon
3/ in the system properties window clcik the Advanced tab
4/ At the bottom of the advanced tab you will see a section marked 'startup
and recovery. Click the Settings button
5/ In the startup and recovery window, right at the top, you will see a
sextion marked System Startup. You will also see a button marked Edit. Click
this button.
6/ The boot ini file will now open for editing. Incidentally, it is wise to
save a copy of the boot ini file before making any alterations, just in case
anything goes wrong.
7/ Now you need to remove the line of the second xp operating system.
8 Here is an example: This is my boot ini file: (it may be worth maximising
the newsgroup window so that the details of my boot ini do not become
truncated)

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003,
Enterprise" /fastdetect

Now in my case i want to get rid of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise - this
being on my G partition. Doing this will leave me with Windows XP on
drive/partition C: So simply take out (in my case) the server 2003 entry.
The boot ini now looks like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

The next thing you need to do is click File on the main tool bar and the
click Save. Now when you boot up you should boot staright into windows xp. A
menu should not appear.

Hope this helps
